Henry Douglas GLOVER

Douglas Henry Glover. born November 24, 1925, died at home on August 20, 2002. Doug was born in Java of missionary parents and grew up in England. He was very involved with athletics and won many medals for the RAF in track and swimming

Doug brought his wife and children to Canada in 1957, moving first to Kelowna, then to Nelson and retiring in Chilliwack in 1990.

His passion was music. He played brass instruments from the age of eight later excelling as a soloist on the euphonium. He conducted many choirs and bands and was Musical Director for five broadway musicals put on by Kelowna Musical Productions. In Nelson he re-established the City Band and began the Nelson girls choir who performed at Expo ’74 in Spokane.

Most recently, Doug has been involved with Chilliwack City Band, the Academy of Music Festival Chorus, and Cooke’s Presbyterian Church Choir. He was a charter member of the Probus Club and an Associate of the ASU. After working in radio in Kelowna, Doug became Managing Director of CKKC Radio in Nelson before joining Selkirk College as head of the Business Administration Department and then establishing the Kootenay Enterprise Centre.

Doug will be missed by his wife Lilian; children: Carole, Stephanie (Tim), Nigel (Stacey), Valerie (Dean); grandchildren: Natasha, Tony, Nicholas, Bryony, Rhiannon, Erika, Kayla, Ajia, Jacqueline, Shaun, Danny and Ryan.

Memorial service to be held at Cooke’s Presbyterian Church, Saturday, August 24, 2002 at 2 p.m.
