Henry C. Born of Abbotsford, passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord at his residence on Friday, Nov. 23, 2002, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in the southern Manitoba village of Rosenbach to Heinrich and Anna (Krahn) Bornn, he grew up and received his early schooling in that rural community. In 1945 he married his sweetheart Esther Brandt.
He furthered his education at MBBC (Winnipeg), Tabor College (Kansas), and received his teaching degree from Emporia State Teachers’ College (Kansas). He developed a love for teaching and his passion for teaching, preaching, and overseas missions took him his family to Paraguay, Brazil, Ecuador, and Austria. Henry was president of Columbia Bible College for five years, taught at Trinity Western University and pastored a number of churches in B.C. and Kansas. During his retirement he was chairman of the Abbotsford Ministerial for six years.
Besides teaching, Henry’s interests included softball, collecting stamps, woodcarving, photography, and birdwatching. He enjoyed music and playing with his much-loved grandchildren.
Henry is survived and will be lovingly remembered by Esther, his wife of 57 years; three daughters, Julia Toews (Ron), Naomi Born, and Rebecca Janzen (Art); his siblings, Annie Rempel, Agnes Peters, George Born, Bill Born, Tina Field, Elsie Brown, and David Born; and his grandchildren, Wesley, James, Nathan, Anna-Marie, Nathaniel, and Matthew.
