Hendrik Bisschop passed away on October 9, 2005 at Chilliwack General Hospital at age 93 years. He was born June 8, 1912 at Rouveen, the Netherlands. Henry is survived by his children, John (Marie) Bisschop, Jane (Art — deceased) Slootweg; Ben (Mattie) Bisschop, Henry (Loren) Bisschop, Clarence (Wilma) Bisschop; as well as many grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by other relatives in Canada and the Netherlands. Henry was predeceased by his wife Jentje in 1995, his infant son Berend; his brother, Harm and sister in law Lijsje; brother in law, Jan Poolman; son in law, Art Slootweg and grandson in law, Ken Lindhout.
Dad and Mum immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1951 with 3 children, landing in Halifax and settling in Chilliwack. Two more children were born in Canada. Dad dedicated much of his time and energy to church work.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the caring staff at Eden Home for the loving care they gave Dad (Papa). A special thank you to the emergency staff, Dr. Sovio and his surgical team, as well as the 4th floor nursing staff at CGH. Thanks to Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home for the level of care provided.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 14, 2005 at 10:30 am from Bethel Netherlands Reformed Church, Rev, P. van Riutenburg officiating. Burial took place at Chilliwack Cemeteries on Little Mountain. Pall Bearers were Bill Bisschop, Henry Slootweg, Pete Slootweg, Jeff Bisschop, Kevin Bisschop and Brandon Bisschop.
