LORIMER; Helene
Helene Lorimer was born September 14, 1924 and passed into the presence of the Lord on April 13, 2016. She was born in Podolsk, Russia and came to Canada as a six week old baby, with her parents, Reinhard and Helena Hiebert and five siblings. They settled in Saskatchewan, where three more siblings were born. After a few years they moved to Coaldale, Alberta where Helene spent most of her school years. After graduating from high school, Helene came to faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour, graduating from Coaldale Bible School after four more years. In 1945 Helene's parents and five siblings moved to British Columbia and settled in the Abbotsford-Matsqui area of the beautiful Fraser Valley. Helene lived and worked in Vancouver, where she attended Provincial Normal School 1950-57, obtaining her teaching certificate. She very much enjoyed teaching and working with children. After an initial year of teaching in the North Okanagan, near Enderby, she returned to the city and taught for the Vancouver School Board for a total of twenty-nine years. Early on she took a four year break from Vancouver to teach at Beaver and Black's Harbour in New Brunswick. In 1959, while visiting the Maritimes with a friend, she met her future husband Delbert Lorimer. They were married in 1962. They both enjoyed the outdoors and usually spent holiday times in a campground beside some lake in the Caribou or the Okanagan. They could be seen in a boat with their fishing lines in the water or in their ATV's exploring trails in the mountain forests. In hunting season, Helene was cooking food in their camper for Delbert and some friend who would come back tired & hungry & sometimes fortunate. Helene is survived by one brother, Henry Hiebert and his wife, Elizabeth (nee Dyck), 7 nephews and 12 nieces. She was predeceased by her husband Delbert, her parents Reinhard and Helena Hiebert, two infant sisters, two sisters Annie Friesen and Mary Barltrop, and five brothers Reinhard, Alfred, John, Cornelius and Jacob. A Graveside Service will be held at Chilliwack Cemetery on Friday, April 22 at 2:00 pm. Online condolences may be offered at www.woodlawn-mtcheam.ca
