Helen Gallagher Penner (Connor) passed away peacefully in her 82nd year on Monday, June 2, 2003 at the Waverly of Chilliwack, surrounded by many loving family members.
She is survived by her three loving daughters, Kathleen (Malcolm), Patricia (David), and Sandra (Laurence); her granddaughter, Devon; grandson Ted; brothers, Hugh (Elsie) and Joe (Celia) Connor; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her loving husband Jack, in 1969.
Helen was born in Cambuslang, Scotland on November 3, 1921, and came to Canada to marry her beloved Jack in 1948 after meeting during the war. Helen lived and raised her girls in the Chilliwack area, working at CFB Chilliwack for 17 years. After Dad passed away, staff at the base affectionately called her ‘’Mrs. P.’’
Mom loved her family, she loved walking, dancing, visits with friends, shopping for elegant clothing, and sharing a good laugh. When you remember our Mother, think of the kettle boiling, ready for tea and a little chat, to be followed by a brisk walk around Sardis Park.
We wish to thank the wonderful, caring staff at the Waverly for their kindness to Mom over the past four years. She loved you all like family. Thank you also to our dear Uncle Hugh for always being there for Mom and to those faithful friends who kept in touch.
Friends and family celebrated Mom’s life at a Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church at 8909 Mary St., Chilliwack on Thursday, June 5, 2003 at 3 p.m. Father Gary Gordon officiated. Interment followed at Little Mountain Cemetery beside our dear Dad. Together again.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for a memorial bench in Mom’s name at her much loved Sardis Park, where others too may sit and enjoy the view.
Henderson’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
‘’A mother holds her children’s hands for a while, their hearts forever.’’
Rest in peace Mom, we will miss you.
