(nee Goode)

Helen Dorothy (Dot) Maclean, (nee Goode), passed away peacefully on May 20th, 2011 at the Valleyhaven Retirement Community, Chilliwack, B.C.

Born in Manville, Alberta on July 8, 1919, our mother lived the majority of her childhood and teen years in Bowmanville, Ontario with her mother, stepfather and seven siblings.

She travelled to B.C. with a girl friend to find work and adventure. She succeeded in this goal by working on the steamship lines that travelled between Victoria, Vancouver and Seattle where she met her husband and the love of her life, Allan Maclean. After a long courtship they married and had two daughters.

Our mother loved life, had a generous nature and was a consummate shopper, having an eye for quality and a good bargain.

After retirement, Mom (and Dad) moved to Vernon to enjoy the weather and lifestyle. She enjoyed many afternoons sitting on her patio on the shores of Lake Okanagan. Our mother enjoyed cooking, photography, shopping, reading, tai chi and the company of friends and family.

She is predeceased by her parents, two brothers and her husband. She is greatly missed by her daughters, Denise (Rheal) and Crystal, granddaughters Abbey and Ashley, grandsons Brig (Trina), Kyle (Melissa) and great-grandsons Morgan and Myer.

Many thanks to the staff of Valleyhaven Retirement Community who cared for our mother when she could not.

There is a celebration of life on June 5, 2011 in Vernon, B.C. at our mother’s home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C.
