September 15th, 2010, at the age of 94 years, Dick Finlay passed away at Chilliwack General Hospital.

He was predeceased by his wife Olive Mary, his twin brother John Shoosmith, mother Elizabeth, and father John Finlay. He leaves to mourn his passing his 4 children; Donald Richard, Joan May, Patricia Elizabeth, and David Ian, 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and his wife of 19 years; Frieda (Kendall) Finlay.

Since his youth and throughout his life, Dick had a great love for hockey, and Hockey Night in Canada was never missed. Dick served in the RCAF as a sheet metalist repairing aircraft at his station in Alliford Bay on Haida Gwaii. After the war he met his first love, Olive Mary Unger, they married in 1948, and settled on the family farm. There, Dick ran a poultry operation with his family, until the mid sixties, when out of Dick’s passion for carpentry, expertise as a sheet metalist, and love of construction sprang Fairfield Enterprises, manufacturer of Mountaineer truck campers and canopies, which he ran until he sold the business and retired.

A Graveside Service was held on Tuesday, September 21st, 2010 at Chilliwack Cemeteries. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Rest in Peace Dad, you will be missed.
