in Loving Memory ~ Gustav went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on September 16, in Chilliwack, B.C., at the age of 85. Born in Poland, Gustav immigrated to Canada with his parents and siblings in 1951.
He made Chilliwack his home and raised his family with his dear wife, Edelgard, of 59 years.
Gus worked as a carpenter for the district of Chilliwack for over 27 years. He enjoyed his job and maintained an honest, hard-working work ethic. He enjoyed meeting people who lived and worked in the community.
Gus was an avid sport fisherman and often said "as a young man growing up, fishing kept me out of trouble".
His great love for the outdoors and fishing on the Fraser River and catching "the big one," gave him much joy and happiness. Gus often shared and blessed family and friends with his catch.
During his retirement, Gus and his loving wife enjoyed many vacations, cruising to spectacular places, and made countless trips to visit his children and grandchildren. When at home, he took pride tending to his large flower garden.
Gus passionately loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his church community. He was always eager to help, support and serve others in any capacity. Gus also had a special place in his heart for children. He regularly volunteered his time to organize games and activities for church picnics and summer Bible camps.
Gus will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Edelgard; daughter, Marita (Ralf); sons, Dennis (Sandra), Bernie (Irina); grandchildren, Steven (Amy), Nicaela, William (Jean), Anna (Stephen), Kurtis (Milena), Simone (Braun), Chloe, Sophia, Emilia, Markus, Joanna, and three great grandchildren.
Also left to mourn are his siblings; sisters, Dina Engelbrecht, Elli Golnik, and brother, Adolf Peter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gus was predeceased by grandson, Jonathan and brother, Edward.
The family would like to thank all staff of the Chilliwack General Hospital, who faithfully cared for Gus, and for the prayers and support of many in various ways during this difficult time.
