ROSE, Gordon Allen ("Gordie")


The veteran Lower Mainland broadcaster passed away at age 90, on Friday, July 17, 2015 surrounded by loved ones in New Westminster, BC. He was born and raised in Vancouver. During his 35 year career, Gordie hosted the DX Prowl on CKMO (1945), worked as an announcer and copywriter at CHWK in Chilliwack from 1945 to 1953. In 1953 he joined the CKNW newsroom where he worked until 1955 when he moved to CFUN (the former CKMO) to host "Double It" until 1957. In 1963 he helped launch CJJC Langley where he was Assistant Manager. In 1965 he returned to CHWK where he was the voice of the daily news broadcasts at 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters Quarter Century Club.

He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Florence (nee Chidlow) and his two brothers, Francis and Haskell. He is survived by his four children Stephanie, Richard, Andrea and Susan, and four grandchildren David, Matthew, Owen and Stacey and six great grandchildren. A celebration of Gordie's life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Joyce Walley Room at the Museum of Vancouver, 1100 Chestnut St., Vancouver, BC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
