Gerry VISSER

Gerry Visser, born on January 10, 1912 in Grootebroek, Netherlands. He passed away peacefully on January 3, 2006 at Cascade Lodge. He was predeceased in 1978 by his wife, Dorothy (Commandeur), the love of his life for 41 years; his grandson Adam Wurtz; sister, Toos Visser and brother Nico DeBoer.

Gerry is survived by his loving family, brother Piet Visser, three daughters, JoAnn (Rick) Hay of Taber, AB, Trudy (Cal) Wurtz of Chilliwack and Cathy (Jeff) Bowman of Chilliwack; grandchildren, Tim (Erika), Kelly (Keith) O’Clair, Chris (Jen) Hay; Beau Hay, Quin (Shannon) Hay. Matthew Bowman, Steven Bowman and seven great grandchildren; Olivia and Maisy Wurtz, Kiralyah O,Clair, Gracyn and Grady Hay, Kiran and Dakota Hay

In the Netherlands Gerry became an accomplished Radio Technician and opened his own business “Radio Visser” in Enkhuizen, Netherlands. In 1950 Gerry, his wife and daughter moved to Canada, settling first in Southern Alberta and then a move to Chilliwack, BC where he continued working in radio and television repairs and sales with a partner, Gerry Breukelman.

He enjoyed being a member on Chwk Seniors Branch 24, the Rosedale Lunch Bunch, Kiwanis Golden K and the First Christian Reformed Coffee Hour. He loved driving his car and taxied many friends to function s throughout his community

Gerry’s great joy were his calligraphy and poem writing. His Christmas songs have been sung throughout many of the churches in the area and played by CSSS Bands for many years.

Gerry left a legacy of love for his family and devotion to God. His compassionate spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

Prayers will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Monday, Jan. 9, 2006 at 6:00 pm.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday, January 10, 2006. at 2:00 pm; Father Gary Gordon presiding.
