John passed away on September 18, 2008 at Chilliwack General Hospital.
John was born to Willem and Johanna Viets on October 30, 1946 in Barneveld, the Netherlands. Moved to California USA June 1947 and then to Chilliwack, BC on October 4, 1964.
He was predeceased by his father, Willem, in Feb. 1992 and his mother, Johanna in Dec. 2005. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 39 years, Leny (nee Romeyn); two daughters: Trudy (Pete) Slootweg and Jolene (Bill) Vermeer; and four grandchildren: Deandra and Tyrone Slootweg and Drake and Nyla Vermeer, all of Chilliwack, BC, as well as the Romeyn family whom he considered to be his brothers and sisters and many cousins in the USA.
John was a dairy farmer in East Chilliwack until 2000 and then started J & P Trucking in 2001. He was at Rosedale, Hall 2 Fire Department for almost 23 years and served as Brigade Chief for the last 11 years.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. the Lord willing, at Bethel Netherlands Reformed on Broadway. Viewing and condolences at Henderson’s Funeral Home Wednesday September 24th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
We would like to thank the staff and doctors of Chilliwack General Hospital for the loving care John received the seven weeks he was there. We are also overwhelmed by the love and support from so many people in the community.
