George Russell EVANS

February 1, 2003

George Russell Evans passed away peacefully on February 1, 2003, surrounded by his family at Chilliwack Gen-eral Hospital after a long illness. He was 84 years of age. George was born in Beaton, B.C. on December 7, 1918.

He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Helen; adoring daughters, Heather and Shannon; son-in-law Greg Bellamy; and ‘little man’ grandson Cameron.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. from Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave., Chilliwack. A reception will follow from the Elks Hall at 46185 Fourth Ave., Chilliwack.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

George was kindhearted and always thought of others first. A Navy veteran and leader in his community, his volunteer service in Chilliwack and Revelstoke included Citizens Patrol, Volunteer Fireman, Auxiliary RCMP, Revelstoke Centennial Committee, Alderman, Moberly Manor, and School Board Trustee. He showed compassion for others in his daily life and work as a Coroner, Judge, and Registrar.

He was a jack-of-all-trades, farmer, butcher, gardener, and cook. Fishing for the big one was a hobby. A miner at heart, prospecting for gold was his passion. He was a 40 year member of the Elks and Royal Canadian Legion. In his latter years, his pride and joy has been his grandson, Cameron. He was a guiding light to his family and a friend to all he met. Keep searching for gold, Dad!
