George Josias Colwill passed away at home in Chilliwack on January 8, 2006 at the age of 79 years and lived in this area for 42 years. He was born in Vancouver, B.C. on August 8, 1926.
George was a retired civilian driver at CFB Chilliwack. He loved fishing and spending time at his cabin on Sheridan Lake. He was a life member and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4. He took great pride in establishing the Sea Cadet Corp in Chilliwack and spent many summers at HMCS Quadra on Vancouver Island training cadets. George volunteered in the community, was active with seniors and he loved his dog Sishke. “The Captain” will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
George is survived by his children; Lin, Dave, Scott, Phil, Nick, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Rose.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 1:00 pm with Major Angus Haggarty officiating. Honourary Pall Bearers will be Travis Colwill, Mike Weightman and Mr. George Smith.
