The Grant family is saddened to announce the passing of Garry on December 7th, 2017 in his 81st year, and Helen on December 9th, 2017, in her 80th year.

A whirlwind romance in Calgary involving a young man from Winnipeg and a young woman from Fort McLeod was the start of an amazing six-decade journey. Garry and Helen were wed in 1960 and after stays in Calgary where daughter Brenda was born, and Lethbridge where son David joined the family, Garry left his job at CP Air in aircraft maintenance and they headed for the coast. The family was complete with the birth of Gordon in New Westminster, and then it was time to settle down in Port Coquitlam.

Garry switched careers - spending many years working in the sheet metal fabrication field. Helen also found work outside the home, working as a care-aid at Hawthorne Care Centre, and gaining many lasting friendships there. After nearly three decades in Port Coquitlam in was time to enjoy the slower pace of the Fraser Valley where they relocated to Chilliwack. An active retirement followed with time spent "down south" at The Glen, cruising, golfing, camping; and lots of games and social activities with their many new friends in Promontory.

Whether it was volunteering at schools, working on committees, coaching, or flipping burgers at a community barbeque; mum and dad always worked together to make their community a better place to be. They were perfect life partners and, in the end, we found out that partnership could not be broken. After a short battle with cancer dad passed away on December 7th and mum, having suddenly taken ill the week before, followed him on the 9th. They left behind three heartbroken children Brenda (Don), David (Chari) and Gordon (Sandy); grandchildren Tabatha, Lucas, Kiara, and Miles; many nieces and nephews; and beloved dog Andy.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Abbotsford and Chilliwack Hospitals, and Cascade Hospice. Support from family and friends, especially their wonderful Promontory community, was appreciated more than words can describe.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life on June 2nd at the Promontory Lake Estates clubhouse (6001 Promontory Road) from 1-4 p.m.
