Frieda Bodener passed away peacefully at the Bradley Center on Wednesday, Dec. 14th, 2011. She was born October 15th, 1929 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, the older of two girls born to Henry and Ida Frey.

She lived with parents in Sagathun, Sask. until her father passed away in 1932. Then her mother, and her two daughters moved to Irvine, and then to Medicine Hat, Alberta. Frieda’s sister, Esther passed away in 1944 of typhoid fever. Frieda also contracted typhoid but miraculously survived.

On October 24th, 1944 Frieda’s mother married Ferdinand Krause; her new family now included two step-brothers, Ken and Morley Krause. The family moved to Chilliwack, B.C. and settled on a farm on Gill Road, in Rosedale.

On August 20th, 1952 Frieda married Leo Bodener of Chilliwack. Leo and Frieda took over the family farm on Evans Road, and lived there for 32 years; milking cows, haying, raising laying hens and fryers, and had a large vegetable and flower garden. They retired from farming in 1984, and moved to Stevenson Road. In June, 1998 they moved to the Birchwood Retirement Home.

In her retirement years Frieda did a lot of knitting, crocheting, cross stitch as well as beautiful petit point works of art. September 2008, Frieda moved to the Bradley Center. During her lifetime she was a member of the Chilliwack Evangelical Missionary Church for 60 years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 21st, 11:00 am at the Evangelical Missionary Church, corner of Princess and Williams. Pastor Glenn Driedger officiating with interment held at the Chilliwack Cemeteries.

Frieda is survived by Morley and Bertha Krause, Drumheller, Alberta and Ken and Dorleen Krause of Chilliwack. The extended family includes, Ella Ritz of Edmonton, Agnes and Fred Mammel, Clarence and Mary Bodener all of Chilliwack. Many nieces, nephews and cousins including Leroy and Pauline Mann of Medicine Hat and their families; as well as special friends, Elfrieda Toews and Lorraine Krause who visited her faithfully.

She was predeceased by her husband Leo Bodener in August, 2002; her sister Esther Frey, her father, Henry Frey, her step-father, Ferdinand Krause and her mother, Ida (Frey) Krause.
