(1933 - 2008)

It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the death of Frederick John George, our gentle and steadfast husband, father and grandfather who passed away on the 27th of January 2008 with his family by his side.

Born on 17 June 1933, Freddie was raised on the family farm on Chilliwack Central Road and introduced to business as a young teen delivering milk at sunrise for the ‘Jersey Dairy’.  Married in 1956, Fred and Pam settled in Chilliwack in 1959.  Fred accepted a sales position with Wheeler Realty, the beginning of a long career in the property industry that included enterprises as Fred George Realty, Don-Fred Holdings and Fred George, Notary Public.

A dedicated member of the Rotary Club since 1973, Fred was President of the International Travel & Hosting Fellowship in 1997-98, Governor of District 505 in 1988-89, President of the Chilliwack Club in 1981-82 and the ‘Godfather’ of the Chilliwack/Fraser Club, established in 1983.  In all aspects of his life, Fred embodied the principle that ‘he profits most who serves best’.

Fred is survived by his wife Pamela; daughters: Constance Martin, Carol George and Cathie Yamashita (Kevin); son, Richard George (Shannon); granddaughter, Bridget Olver (Jordan); and grandsons: Matthew Yamashita and Michael Martin.

He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Ada, brother Dick and sister Molly.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2008 in the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home in Chilliwack, with tea following.  Donations to the B.C. Lung Association will be gratefully received.

A reception will take place from 12 Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at 5835 Garrison Boulevard, Chilliwack for all who would like to join us to celebrate Dad’s life.

Our thanks go the doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and staff of the Chilliwack General Hospital for their kindness and compassion.
