Frank Sobkowich

It is with heavy hearts we wish to announce the passing of Frank Sobkowich on November 23, 2020. Frank passed after
a short battle with cancer.
He was born in Winnipeg on May 17, 1946 and grew up on a farm in Fisher Branch area. He left home at 16 and joined
the Canadian Army as a Sapper Apprentice in 1962 and moved out to Camp Chilliwack. It was in Chilliwack where he met his wife, Beverly (Arnold) and they were married in 1964. They had two children, Frank and Christina both born
in Chilliwack.
In 1971 he was posted as part of NATO forces to Lahr, Germany where they lived until 1974. Upon his return to Canada in 1974 he again resided in Chilliwack. He served in the military until 1983. Upon his retirement he started up a landscape contracting business which he operated with his son until 2001.
In 1989 after severe flooding affected his community he involved himself in the community seeking flood mitigation and developed a community emergency plan with the Fraser Valley Regional District. In 1996 he ran successfully for Director
on the FVRD board representing Chilliwack Lake, Cultus Lake and Columbia Valley. He served three terms on the Board and eventually got the flood mitigation for his community as well as supporting many community initiatives.
In his retirement he enjoyed his grandchildren and puppies immensely. His health declined in his later years. He fought back bravely following a major stroke in 2016. In 2020 his health declined and he succumbed to cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly, son Frank (Gizelle) Sobkowich, daughter Christina, And grandchildren Ryan and Alexander Whiteway and Stephen and Hailey Sobkowich. He is also survived by his mother, Janet Wuziuk, sisters Pat
Solonyka, Joanne Wuziuk and Connie (Dale) Dotten. He was predeceased by his father Peter Sobkowich and brother Stephen Sobkowich and step-father Joseph Wuziuk. He will be missed by his family and many friendships he made through his time in the military and community.
