It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Bodner who suddenly slipped away from us on August 30, 2018.

She is survived by her children Lynn and Ryszard, Michael and Janet, Robert and Laura, grandchildren Michal, Ryszard, Mateusz, Michael, Patrick, Jonathan, Shannon and Joshua. She will also be missed by her brother Ron and wife Gloria, sister Darlene, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Michael of 56 years in 2009.

There will be no service on request, but a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

A special and heartfelt thank you is sent to the Fraser Hope Lodge and staff for the wonderful care provided to our mother for the past few years. In lieu of flowers, please kindly donate to the Alzheimer's Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Joyce was born in Edmonton, Alberta, then moved to Vancouver BC in 1942. She graduated in 1950 from Kitsilano High School where she played on the grass hockey team and was a member of the Drama Club doing production, sewing costumes and helping with set design. She met her future RCAF husband Michael at a Vancouver dance hall in July of 1951 and eloped on December 19, 1952 in Bellingham, Washington. In 1953, Joyce achieved her Certificate and became an Associate of the Canadian Bankers Association through Queens University in Kingston, Ontario and was one of the few women in the business of a field of men. Throughout her career and Public Service of over 20 years, she worked with the Bank of Montreal, BC Ministry of Housing, Ontario Housing Corporation and the Ministry of Community and Social Services of Ontario as a Financial Analyst until her retirement in 1993.

A highlight of her career was her receiving the prestigious Amethyst Award from the government of Ontario for dedicated and outstanding Public Service in 1993. She was passionate about her involvement with ACT Canada and the utilization of the Smart card and the first direct depositing.

Joyce had a full and engaging life, a love for breeding Bernese Mountain Dogs, growing orchids, was an avid reader, was on top of Canadian and International news and local events, loved shopping, travel, knitting, sewing and tapestry work. She also made a wicked apple pie! She greatly enjoyed her road trips and travelled extensively across Canada, the United States as well as a few trips to Europe. She held an active role as a Girl Guide in school and as an adult volunteered with the United Way and Girl Guides of Canada in Nova Scotia, Ontario and British Columbia.

After her retirement, she moved to Hope British Columbia where she volunteered with the Hope Community Center, was the Treasurer for the Hope Station House and ran for councillor for the District of Hope.

For our Mother, Grandmother, sister Joycie and friend, you will be lovingly and greatly missed. There will be a void in all our lives which, thankfully, our many wonderful memories will help to ease your passing. We love you Mom...you will be forever in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.
