Frances Grace Cochran

August 30, 2005

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother just five weeks after the death of our father. Frances was born in Calgary on December 9, 1921, the only child of Tom and Hilda Campbell, and passed away peacefully in Royal Columbian Hospital surrounded by her loving and beloved family on August 30, 2005.

Fran is survived by her four children, Leslie Wilton of Richmond, Barbara (Peter Grant) or Gibsons, Michael (Denise) and Stephen, both of Chilliwack; six grandchildren, James, Elizabeth, Tara, Lauren, Elise and Monique; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Sebastian. She is also survived by cherished lifelong friends.

Fran grew up in Calgary and Stettler, Alberta and met Bill in Whitehorse during the construction of the Alaska Highway. They were married on October 17, 1944, shortly before Bill left for Europe with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Our mother was a voracious reader and a very quick wit. Her cards and letters were hilarious. Our homes are filled with her beautifully crafted rugs, needlepoint, weaving and lace tablecloths. She made sure every grandchild was well supplied before she left. It was impossible to leave our mother’s house without receiving a freshly baked pie. She believed strongly in education, and was prepared to sacrifice to ensure that we all had one. She cared for our father during many years of illness at the end of their 60 year long marriage. Our hearts are broken; but we are sustained by wonderful memories.

When I am dead, my dearest Sing no sad songs for me.
