Evelyn Olive Mitchell passed away peacefully on July 10, 2012 at Chilliwack General Hospital. She was born in Chilliwack on Dec 28, 1923 to George and Olive Thornton. She leaves behind her loving husband of 69 years, Allan, their son Bill (Debbie) and daughters Sandi Esau (Tom) and Debbie Ohlhausen (Gary), 7 grandchildren, Josh , Kristy (Brett) Jen (Kevin) Haley (Christian) Dean (Christa) Katie (Neil) Tory, and 5 great grandchildren, Owen, Noah, Dean, Brooke, Cole and Connor. She is survived by her sister Doris Rutherford of Kamloops and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Ivan Thornton.

She married Allan Mitchell in 1943 and spent most of their married life in Chilliwack raising their 3 children here. Evelyn’s passions in life were her family and friends, her church and her music. Evelyn was very proud of her roots as a pioneer family in Sardis. She was also proud of her membership in the United Empire Loyalists through which she could trace her Canadian roots back to the 1700s (7 generations).

She will be greatly missed and will live in our hearts forever. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday July 21, 2012 at Carman United Church at 11 am.

Special thanks to Dr. Wiggins and the nurses who gave her such loving care in the ICU. In lieu of flowers donation for the life and work of Carman United Church would be gratefully appreciated as this was so dear to her heart.

Rest in Peace. We love you.
