Evelyn ATKINSON

Evelyn Atkinson passed away at the Chilliwack General Hospital on July 5, 2004 at the age of 71 years. She was born in Drumheller, Alta. on June 20, 1933. At the age of nine, Ev and her family moved to B.C. In Hammond (Maple Ridge) she met and married Chuck in 1954. Chuck and Ev started their family in Hammond and moved to Chilliwack in 1959 where they raised four children.

Ev’s primary interest and commitment was always to her family. Most recently Ev (& Chuck) were charter members of the Dogwood Monarch Lions Club which recently recognized her as a life member of the International Association of Lions Clubs. She will also be remembered for 25 years of involvement with the local bowling lanes where she was an assistant manager and coordinator of the Youth Bowling Council. Earlier on, Ev worked as a clerk at SuperValu, was a representative with Welcome Wagon and volunteered for many years with the PTA. Ev was an excellent cook, enjoyed knitting and loved her sports.

She is survived by her husband, Chuck, of 50 years; daughters, Lori Shand and Cindy (Alf) White; sons, Robert (Margaret) and Michael; grandchildren Steven (Kim), Kyle and Jennifer White; Shawna Harvey-Shand, Colin and Cameron Atkinson and sister Betty Hollis and her family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Percival and Mary Beeson; brother Harry Beeson; son-in-law, Gary Shand and nephew John Hollis.

A memorial open house tea will be held Friday, July 9, 2004 between 12-4 pm at the Mt. Cheam Lions Hall on Spadina Ave., Chilliwack.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Chilliwack Dogwood Monarch Lions Club.
