Ethel Cordelia Reid (nee Bowman) of Chilliwack, passed away on April 28, 2003 at Tabor Home in Clearbrook, at the age of 86. She was born November 13, 1916 to a large pioneer family in Chilliwack.

She is survived by her son Jim (Patricia) Reid; and her grandchildren, Daniel, Andrew and Benjamin.

The third oldest of five children, she was predeceased by her parents and siblings. As a young girl, Ethel remembers buggy riding to the Carman United Church in Sardis with her parents and siblings. She enjoyed swimming, boating, and picnicking at Cultus and Sumas Lake with family and friends. She also enjoyed dancing.

Ethel assisted her father’s sawmill business by cooking meals for the crew. She also owned and operated a small gas station and coffee shop west of Prince George in the mid-1950s. She was a hardworking individual. In the early 1960s Ethel and Jim returned to Chilliwack to live and work near her family.

Ethel enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, as well as knitting and crocheting. She knitted beautiful woolen sweaters for her son and grandchildren. Ethel enjoyed taking day trips to various locations in the Fraser Valley and the Northwest Washington regions. She was a kind grandmother who always brought treats to her grandsons.

A memorial service was held for Ethel Cordelia Reid on Friday, May 2, 2003 at 10 a.m., in the chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home, with Reverend Michael Hare officiating.

Should family and friends so desire, donations can be made in Ethel’s name to a charity of their choice.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Dodd’s and Dr. G. Lewis, and the nurses and staff of both the Chilliwack General Hospital and Tabor Home.
