(April 26, 1919 - May 1, 2009)

Esther Dorothy Kouwenhoven, of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away peacefully on May 1, 2009. She was born in Arrhus, Denmark, on April 26, 1919.

Esther will be lovingly remembered by daughters: Roxanne (Bob) Boyd of Grindrod, B.C., Judy Kouwenhoven of Chilliwack, B.C., Laura (Bob) Tunbridge of Agassiz, B.C.; and son, Richard Kouwenhoven of Chilliwack, B.C. She is also survived by sister Edna Schick of Leduc, Alta; brother, Don (Marilyn) Pedersen, of Dawson Creek, B.C. and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Esther came to Canada from Denmark in 1925 with sister Anna, as their parents set to farming in Milk River, Alberta. The Pedersen family grew to eight brothers and sisters.

Esther moved to Chilliwack in 1946, and married Peter Kouwenhoven in 1959. She worked as a sales clerk in Eaton’s and Woolworth’s stores. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, baking, trailer trips and special occasions with family.

Esther was predeceased by husband Peter Kouwenhoven; sisters: Anna, Rose Marie, and Doris; brothers: Eric and Norman; and grandson Darren Tunbridge.

There will be a viewing for family and friends Thursday, May 7, 2009, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Henderson’s Funeral Home, Chilliwack. Service of Remembrance will be Friday, May 8, 10:30 am, at Cornerstone Christian Reformed Church, McNaught Road, Chilliwack, Reverend Geleynse officiating.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bull, and the staffs of Lynnwood Retirement Residence and Chilliwack General Hospital for their care.
