Ernest Walter Shewchuk passed away suddenly on November 20th, 2009. He was born on December 2nd, 1939 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Rose and Michael Shewchuk. He attended school and worked a few different jobs until he began his career with the Saskatoon Fire Department in 1960. After his wife Joan passed away in 2001, Ernie was fortunate to meet and share the remainder of his life with Jo-Anne Smith.

Ernie was very involved in coaching baseball and hockey for his children as they were growing up. Ernie had a real talent for landscaping and started a small business on his days off from the Fire Department. During retirement, he enjoyed fishing, golfing and attending social and church activities with friends in Loon Lake. He and Joan would spend summers in Loon Lake and the winters in BC and he continued to do this with his new partner, Jo-Anne. Ernie had just sold his Loon Lake home and was planning to move to British Columbia on a permanent basis.

Ernie was predeceased by his wife, Joan Shewchuk (nee Esch); and his parents, Rose and Mike Shewchuk.

Ernie leaves to mourn his passing: his partner, Jo-Anne Smith; his four children, Sandy (Marcel) Fauchoux, Karen (Rob) Burant, Kevin (Brenda) Shewchuk and Janice (Douglas) Williams; his eleven grandchildren, Jordan, Cailee, Kyle, Adam, Amber, Lane, Brittney, Meghan, Brendan, Lauren and Hunter; his two brothers, Marvin (Shirley) and Ivan (Grace); and numerous nieces and nephews.
