Erna Wiens passed into the presence of her Lord on November 2, 2013 at Heritage Village, Chilliwack. She was born in Saratow, Slavgorod, Siberia on January 13, 1925. In 1929 her family fled Siberia and settled in the wilderness in Paraquay, where Erna grew up, married and had 4 children. In 1953 Erna and Jake immigrated to Greendale and then Yarrow, where they raised their 12 children. Mom spent many long hours working in the raspberry, bean and then the hazelnut fields to help provide for her family. Then came the cooking, baking, canning, sewing and washing. Her 'Oma' cookies are greatly missed. Erna's quiet strength and faith sustained her through difficult times.
Erna was predeceased by her husband Jakob in 1994 and eldest son Ernie in 2010. She is survived and greatly missed by (Pat) Wiens, Anna (Peter) Saunders, Helen (Herb) Thiessen, Frank (Denise) Wiens, Gerhard (Audrey) Wiens, Hilda (Wes) Bergen, Walter (Yvonne) Wiens, Rita (Ron) Toews, Jake (Trish) Wiens, Helmut (Kim) Wiens, Elsie (Roy) Liebe and Ruth (Jim) Bartsch. Also mourning her are 27 grandchildren (11 with spouses), 19 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and her sister Katie as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. K. Hirst for his considerate care and the staff at Heritage Village for their kind, compassionate care during Mom's last years. Memorial Service will be on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Yarrow United Mennonite Church. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to MCC.
