Elwod Matthew BAUMGARTNER

Elwod Baumgartner passed away on April 20, 2003 at Chilliwack Hospital, after a battle with cancer and heart illness.

He was born in 1924 to Matthew Jackson and MaryAnn (Burton) Baumgartner in Port Coquitlam, where he grew up.

Predeceased in 1991 by his wife of 45 years, Pauline (nee Pavlina Colodin); and his brother Fred.

Elwod is survived by daughters, Susan Carol (Gary), and Sandra Marie; many nieces and nephews; his common-law wife Doris Thompson; her daughters, Linda (Robin), Cheryl (Andy), and Karen (Ron); Doris’ grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elwod will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

El served in the Army from 1939 to 1945 as a soldier in the European Theatre of Operations. He was a dedicated member of the Legion for over 40 years.

El was employed for over 20 years at Essondale, as a psychiatric and charge nurse. He then left to work in construction with B.C. Hydro, until his retirement. During his B.C. Hydro days, El became a loyal union man.

At El’s request, there will be no memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Salvation Army.
