Elifie Alfreda KADLUBEC

September 14, 2004

KADLUBEC, Elifie Alfreda, the youngest of 11 children, was born on May 3, 1909 near Melville, Saskatchewan. Her parents, Margaret and Martin Wing had emigrated from Norway to Galesburg, North Dakota and then to the Melville, Saskatchewan area in 1903. Here they farmed and were instrumental in establishing the first church and school in the area. Elifie was raised on the farm and resided there until she and John were married at the local church in 1938. They took up residence at a nearby country school where John was the teacher.

Elifie and John purchased a farm in 1945 and moved to the farm to live; John taught at a nearby school. Here Elifie was involved in community life including the church’s ladies’ aid group which involved among other crafts, quilting. Although quilting was greatly enjoyed by Elifie, as evidence by quilts that are still used today, her favourite interest was cooking and baking which she expanded on all her life.

Elifie and John moved from Melville to Calgary and then Delta. Elifie moved to Chilliwack in 1986.
