Elaine Marion BRADLEY (Delisle)

Elaine Marion Bradley (Delisle) passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2003, surrounded by her 3 children. Born July 17, 1927 in Salmon Arm, BC.

Elaine spent her youth in Chilliwack, BC. She received her nursing diploma from VGH in 1950. Elaine was also one of the first people to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from U.B.C. in 1951. She was a pioneer in home care nursing with the Simon Fraser Health unit from 1973 to 1988 and later with the BC Ministry of Health before retiring at the age of 60. She remained active on the board of VGH until 1996.

In her Youth, Elaine enjoyed a love of flying. She was the first woman in Chilliwack to receive a pilots licence. In 1950 she was declared the best amateur flier in western Canada, and was the first woman to compete for the national Webster Trophy.

Many happy summers were spent at the family cottage at Cultus Lake, where Elaine enjoyed entertaining family and friends.

Elaine is lovingly survived by her children Susan, Doug (Susan), John and her much cherished grandchildren Andrew, Stephen, Philip, Elizabeth, and Clive.

Elaine will be remembered as a compassionate and courageous woman, who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank Dr. Warneboldt for his care of Elaine, and also the home care and home support staff.

A Celebration of Elaine's life will be held on Tuesday Oct 14th, at 1pm, at Burnaby Funeral Directors, 4276 Hastings St. Burnaby BC.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be gratefully appreciated.
