June 5, 1918 - May 23, 2019
Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Eileen MacKay passed away peacefully on Thursday May 23, 2019 at Valley Haven Retirement Community, Chilliwack, at the remarkable age of 100.
Eileen will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her three children: Leslie (Mel) of Kelowna, Dean(Titia) of Mayne Island and Ian of Chilliwack, her seven grandchildren: Mark, Michelle (Jason), Megan, Robin (Spencer),Morgan (Megan), Brock (Thyra) and Lindsey (Luke), her treasured great grandchildren now numbering 15, as well as nieces and nephews.
Eileen was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack in 1980, and dear sister June.
Eileen was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan in 1918. Shortly after business college Eileen met Jack, and that was that! She continued working in Vancouver at Underwriters Insurance while Jack was overseas during the war. They married in 1945 and settled in the Chilliwack area. While raising a family, Eileen enjoyed working part time. This included being hired as the first school secretary in the district (Sardis Elementary) and helping out in Jack's store. She was a member of Carmen United church choir for many years.
After Jack passed away Eileen became the activity director at Birchwood Retirement Residence, enjoyed her book club, belonged to PEO and was a faithful volunteer at The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.
Eileen's was a life well-lived. Her optimistic nature, independence and kindness to family and many friends will be cherished.
Thank you to the caring 3rd floor staff at Valley Haven.
