BYRNES, Eileen Joan
February 18, 1924 to December 30, 2016
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our precious mother Joan Byrnes (nee Dunn) who lived at the Waverly Seniors Village in Chilliwack, B.C. She was predeceased by her husband Austin and daughter Sheila. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her 9 children, Elaine Kinnaird (Frank), Joanne Sexsmith, Judy Anderson (Duncan – deceased), Patricia Byrnes, Colleen Bishop (John), Bev Berg (Terry), Jim Byrnes (Claudine), Cathy Johnson (Danny), Janie Meeres (Gary), 28 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, and a sister in Cape Breton, and many nieces and nephews. Joan was born in a small maritime town of North Sydney, Nova Scotia, one of ten children. Her childhood years were filled with love, laughter, music and church activities. After graduation she enjoyed a short career in banking and office duties at Dorval Airport in Montreal. Joan met her late husband, Air Force Officer William Austin, in North Sydney at the church she attended all her life. Joan and Austin were married in Montreal in 1945, and moved to Kerrobert, Saskatchewan. There they began their 66 years of family life and raising their children. In 1960 they relocated to Chilliwack, B.C. where their tenth child was born. Together they raised their children with love and taught by example the strength and importance of family. Joan was happiest when she was with her family enjoying special times, family traditions and celebrations. She was an amazing homemaker, a great cook, and an excellent bridge player. In her later years she enjoyed knitting. Her favourite pastime for over 15 years was her computer. She loved keeping in touch with family and friends through emails and facebook. Grandchildren were amazed and delighted with her daily comments and support. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the exceptional care and friendship that Joan received while residing at the Waverly Seniors Village. We would also like to thank the Home Support Team for their support and friendship over the years. A funeral mass with take place on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11am at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Parish in Chilliwack. Followed by a procession to the gravesite and a tea back at the church. Arrangements entrusted to Mcleans Funeral Services Ltd. Chilliwack, BC.
