Edward John Tisdale Sr., in his 89th year, passed away peacefully at Chilliwack General Hospital on Monday May 7th 2007.
“Ted” was born in New Westminster on Sept. 5th, 1918, and lived his entire life in the lower mainland – fishing and playing sports throughout his youth in parts of the lower mainland which over time became the shopping destinations Guildford Mall and Surrey Place shopping center.
In his early 20’s, he served with his brother, Joseph, in the Canadian Army and proceeded to see action in Europe.
He married his high school sweet heart, Joan Adamson in 1941 (predeceased 1987) and together they settled in the Lower Mainland and had two children, Edward John Jr. (Ted) and Elisabeth Joan (Betty).
It was at this time when “Ted” began his 38-year career with the BC Electric Company, now BC Hydro – retiring in 1977. With his growing family, they spent many family vacations enjoying the great outdoors – his love of the outdoors never left him, as he grew older.
He continued to enjoy nature as an avid walker, and also through the eyes of others as a long-time subscriber to Beautiful BC Magazine. It was during these family vacations where he really developed a zest for reading and solving the challenges that came with the daily crosswords. However, one of his life-long passions was cribbage – winning numerous awards and prizes along the way – none more prominent than the title of “reigning Tisdale Cribbage Champion!”
His parents Albert Edward and Elizabeth Jean, as well as his sisters Iris and Merle predeceased Ted.
He leaves behind his brother Joseph (wife Ev); daughter Betty Dargie (Barrie); and son Ted Jr. (Irene); as well as five grandchildren: Cathy (Duncan), Michael (Gabe), Jeff (Tina), Ian (Marcia) and David and eight great-grandchildren Keegan, Kierin, Calum, Malcolm, Lauren, Lincoln, Madison, and Kelton.
“Ted” was and always will be a much-loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to those who had the pleasure to make his acquaintance over the years.

There will be a Memorial Servic, Saturday, May 12th, 2007 at 11:00 am held at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Rev. John Sovereign officiating.
