Ed passed away in Chilliwack on February 28, 2006 after a brief illness at the age of 59 years.
Ed was a well respected city employee who worked as a jail guard at the Chilliwack RCMP Detachment for the past 11 years.
He was born in Washington DC on August 30, 1946 and served his country with honour in Vietnam and Germany as a firefighter in the US Air Force.
After his tour of duty, he became a member of the US Secret Service from January 1971 until January 1981 making his mother and father very proud.
In 1981 he moved to Canada with his wife so that she could pursue her military career, he stood back and encouraged her to complete almost 25 years of service.
During this time he wore many hats; that of a carpenter, groundskeeper, security service and worked as a security director at Vancouver General Hospital and later on at Victoria Hospital.
Ed and Sheila finally settled in Chilliwack in 1994.
Ed was very proud to be working for the past 11 years with the RCMP. As many of them could attest to, Ed had a story for every occasion. He will be sorely missed.
He loved his wife and his many nieces and nephews from both families, taking pride in all of their achievements.
He was also a second father to many of Sheila’s siblings and completely enjoyed that role.
He will be in our hearts forever, the way he has touched so many lives is incredible.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Sheila (nee: Sunderland) of 25 years, his mother Louise Hershey, sisters; Karlene (David) Helmick and Susan (William) Montgomery. He was predeceased by his father Karl Hershey and brother Thomas Hershey.

Funeral Service to be on Monday, March 6, 2006 at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home with Father Fred Tasinari officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chilliwack SPCA, Chilliwack Hospice Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
