Edna M. MACDONALD

April 9, 2003

Edna M. Macdonald born on October 23, 1911 in Ferintosh, Alta., passed away peacefully on April 9, 2003 at her home, The Birchwood, in Chilliwack.

Ernest W. Whittaker and Martha Graff’s fifth of 11 children, Edna married William Alexander Macdonald on June 17, 1939. The couple lived in Victoria much longer than a few other places. They loved the tropics, in general, and Hawaii in particular, which they visted yearly for over a decade. The couple restored houses as a hobby and Edna’s green thumb was an added bonus.

Widowed six months after their 47th anniversary, Edna moved twice more until she finally settled in Chilliwack. Her involvement with the Chilliwack Lions spurred her increasing volunteerism.

Cruising appeared to be Edna’s only vice, besides being an avid collector of elephant figurines and other delicate works of art. She often cruised alone, spanning the globe with increasing elan. She was a fiercely faithful friend, who found no patience for insincerity. Definietly one of the finest human beings who graced the lives of those who got to know her well.

Edna is survived by sister-in-law Marguerite (Milo) Whittaker of Chilliwack, and an innumerable number of nephews and nieces across Canada.

Edna was a treasured, lifelong member of the Chilliwack Lions Club and loved her time at the flea market. She will be missed by all of us.

A Celebration of Life gathering in her memory is scheduled for April 25, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Chilliwack Lions Club Community Hall, 47130 Hope River Rd., Chilliwack.
