Peacefully passed away in her 96th year at the Ottawa General Hospital, on April 24, 2016. Daughter of the late Marguerite Blanche Baxter and Alan Isaac Ritchie; predeceased by her brothers Norman and Robert; survived by her niece Lynn Kongham and nephew Lance Ritchie. A proud Canadian, Dr. Ritchie was called to the Bar of Alberta in 1944, and worked to the betterment of her fellow citizens first with the Federal Government in Ottawa, and then as President and Founder of the Human Rights Institute of Canada for almost 40 years. Her unselfish efforts were recognized in 2000 with an appointment to the Order of Canada. A celebration of her life will be held at First Memorial-Fairview Chapel, 259 St. Patrick St., Ottawa, on Tuesday, May 17 from 5pm to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shepherds of Good Hope would be greatly appreciated.
