January 11, 1965 - January 6, 2022
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of our loving husband and father following a sudden and brief (non-Covid) illness.
Jonathan was born in Belfast and immigrated to Canada at age 7. After graduating with a BSc in Kinesiology at SFU, he attended medical school at UBC followed by an internship at Royal Columbian Hospital and a move to Abbotsford where he began practicing in 1992.
It was in the old Abbotsford Hospital Emergency department that he met his future wife, Jodie, and they were married in 1994. Following this, they were blessed with 3 beautiful children (Kaelyn, Nathan, and Shyla) whom he considered the prides of his life.
Jonathan was well-known and respected within Abbotsford due to his work in the Emergency department, his private family practice, and as a Hospitalist. He was beloved by his patients and admired by his colleagues.
Born with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for improving healthcare, Jonathan founded a medical software company, Pixalere. Over the years, he has continued to expand the application of the software which is now used worldwide for wound-care management. His vision for incorporating technology into healthcare has led to interests and involvement in many other areas as well.
Outside of work, Jonathan loved spending time in his garden and was so proud to have been chosen as the People's Choice Winner of the Rotary's Garden and Lifestyle Tour in 2016. He loved to collect anything and everything, looked forward to conquering the 6-star Sudoku in every Saturday's Globe and Mail, and also developed a recipe for his own home-grown hot pepper oil.
His most time-consuming interest, however, was attempting to micro-manage every aspect of his children's lives (who know how lucky they are to have the best dad ever).
Predeceased by his father, Alan, in 1989. Survived by his wife Jodie, children Kaelyn, Nathan, and Shyla, mother Muriel, sisters Wendy (Tom) and Amanda, as well as extended family and many friends whom he considered 'brothers'.
Due to current Covid restrictions, there will not be a service however we plan to gather and remember Jonathan with a large outdoor event later this spring or summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jonathan's name to Raven's Moon Resource Society (an Abbotsford-based organization that Jonathan has been proud to work with over the years).
He will be remembered for his endless energy, his fierce work ethic, and his larger-than life personality that had an impact on all who were lucky enough to know him. He will be incredibly missed.
