Douglas Standing Barker 94, of Chilliwack BC passed away peacefully on February 26, 2019 in the Chilliwack Hospital.

He was predeceased by Madeline, his beloved wife of 69 years, sister Phyllis Higginson and brother Ron Barker.

Doug leaves behind his sister Doreen Gunther (Chilliwack), son Dennis Barker (Hope), daughter Jayne (Bill) Barker (Victoria), and foster son Brent (Rene) Aldridge (Boston Bar).

He was a wonderful Grandpa to Jennifer, Julie, Steven, Geordie, Douglas, Chandra and BJ.

Doug grew up on the family dairy farm on Prest Road. He started work in the dairy business then switched to car sales. He married high-school sweetheart, Madeline, in 1945. They moved to Hope in 1953 where they were active members of the community, opening a gas station and being involved in other small businesses.

He served on the Hope Town Council, was active in the Lions, Rotary and golf clubs as well as the United Church. Through his service station he mentored many of Hope's young men.

He and Madeline retired to Chilliwack in 1986 where they enjoyed a large circle of friends. They travelled many miles in their various motor homes and went on 22 cruises. He continued driving to meet friends for coffee every weekday until a month before he died.

Doug was known for being the life of any gathering - always teasing and full of fun. He will be missed.

A special thank you to Dave Snyder and to the Chilliwack Hospital staff on 4 south.

A celebration of life will be held for Doug on Sunday March 24th from 2 to 4 pm at the Edenbank Clubhouse, 7001 Eden Drive, Sardis.
