Douglas Stanley Hartman

(July 7, 1932 - February 21, 2017)

Following his beloved wife of 58 years, Pat, who preceded him in May 2016, Doug Hartman passed quietly away at Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack, BC on February 21, 2017. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Doug was a proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Regiment where he achieved the rank of Sergeant, seeing active duty in Korea. He was also a tireless volunteer instructor for St. John Ambulance for many years before retirement, efforts that were rewarded by his appointment as an Officer of the Order of St. John in 1986. Always supportive and proud of his wife and family, Dad was a joke teller who loved telling the joke as much as checking to see if anyone was laughing. He and Mom loved to get in the van and just drive - back and forth to Ontario, to Vegas or Reno, wherever the road was going to take them, they wanted to go - all meticulously planned by Dad. Doug leaves behind daughters Tanya (Bill) Miller, Debra Car, Dianne (Larry) Forler, sons Terry (Christy) and Brian (Tammy) Hartman, granddaughters Nicole (Brad) Thompson, Samantha (Tyler) Clarke, Danielle Miller, Jennifer Swainson, Angela Hartman, Holly Nahrgang, Nathan Dougherty, Sarah and Joshua Forler, and great grandchildren Faith, Mattias, Emma, Lainie, Zachary, Zara, Caydence, Emmerick, Cameron, Reese and Keirah, and brothers Jack and Bob Hartman. A private interment will take place at Vedder View Gardens Cemetery on Friday, March 24th followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., to be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 5661 Vedder Road, Chilliwack. Donations to the Chilliwack Hospice Society in lieu of flowers will be gratefully accepted.
