On August 9th, 1952 in Chilliwack, BC, Douglas Gene Carey, an amazing and loved person was born.

Doug was a dedicated worker in the forestry industry for over forty years, being an asset to each job he had. He enjoyed the challenges and made the impossible possible. He worked for the District of Hope as a heavy duty mechanic for the last few years.

Doug spent his time hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed the outdoors and appreciated the stillness and beauty of nature. He honoured nature by using this appreciation while hunting and fishing, waiting for the illusive big buck or 40 pound salmon.

Greater than his love for the outdoors was his love for his four granddaughters, who adored their grandpa immensely. He took pleasure in watching them play and listening to their laughter.

Everyone who met Doug were greeted with warmth and friendship. He enjoyed many over-the-fence conversations with neighbours and whenever Doug was missing, it was guaranteed that he would be talking to someone in the driveway, or on the street.

On August 19th, 2009, Doug passed away at the family cabin on Machete Lake where he spent many quiet and peaceful times with his wife and family.

Doug was predeceased by his father Calvin. He is survived by his wife Liz, daughter Danielle Barnes (Jordy), son Chris (Jill), mother Marg, brother Dale (Cindy), sister Denise Bedard, sister Cindy Harbrink (Mike), brother Calvin (Dorothy) and four granddaughters Isabel, Bryn, Taylor, and Madelyn. He will be greatly missed by many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will take place for family and friends on Saturday, August 29th, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at 65891 Park Avenue, Hope, BC.

Doug’s positive attitude, humor, and appreciation for the gifts of life will be greatly missed.
