(Aug. 25, 1917 - July 18, 2008)

Doug has headed out on his next great adventure. He always loved travel, from family camping trips to motor homing all over North America and visits to other continents.

He was born in Vancouver and spent much of his life there. He outlived two wives, Courtney (2007) and Margo (1984). His partner Lillian Sjogren made the last 23 years of his life adventurous and special.

He was a pilot in the RCAF from 1941 to 1945, getting his wings in Alberta and serving in England and the Middle East. Those years had a profound impact on him.

Doug was a class act and made friends easily with his charm, wit and ready smile. He is survived by sons: Rick (Barbara Young) and Brian (Rose Marie); grandchildren: James, Cheryl, Laura, Karen, Archie, Max and companion Lillian.

When health began to fail in later years, Doug was one to say, “If I’d known I was going to live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself.”

Doug was cremated at his request and left with enough cash in his pocket to buy a round for friends new and old on the other side.

He will be missed by many. His boys will toast him with a scotch and share memories.

A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held in the Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.
