(Dec. 24, 1919 - Jan. 23, 2009)

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Doug Marshall at Chilliwack General Hospital on Jan. 23, 2009, at the age of 89.

Deeply loved and greatly missed by Mary, his wife of 60 years; daughters: Janet (Rolph Krayenhoff) and Barbara (Jim Lewko); and grandsons: Scott, Bruce (Floss) and Chad Krayenhoff.

Born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, he joined the RAF in November 1939, piloting Liberators in Coastal Command until July 1946. He emigrated to Canada a year later. Having met and courted Mary in England, she then emigrated to marry him in Vancouver in October, 1948.

His career was in commercial electrical sales and management, retiring in 1980 from General Electric.

He played cricket, badminton, and tennis, and took his family on annual camping holidays, instilling a lifelong love of nature and the outdoors in his daughters.

Known for his honesty and integrity, Doug could always be counted on to ‘do the right thing’.

He enjoyed a long retirement at Lindell Beach on Cultus Lake, also spending 23 winters in Arizona, as well as considerable other travelling. He served as a director and president of the Lindell Beach Residents Association, and many years as president of the Lindell Beach Tennis Club. The family wishes to thank the medical and nursing staff (including some wonderful students) at Chilliwack hospital for their sensitive care and concern.

No service at Doug’s request. Memorial tea at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
