(Oct. 27, 1912 – Sept. 13, 2009)

Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend Doris Seaholm passed away peacefully on September 13th, 2009 at the Chilliwack Hospital in her 97th year.

She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Her family takes great comfort knowing that she is now with her Saviour. Doris touched many hearts in her lifetime and left us precious memories we are proud of.

Doris was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan and started her nursing career at the Lloydminster Hospital. After marrying Adolph they farmed for several years. In 1951 they moved to Chilliwack on an 11 acre Dairy farm on Fairfield Island.

In 1952 Doris started at the old Valley Haven Hospital as a licensed practical nurse. In 1968 they sold the Dairy farm which was later subdivided and a street was named Seaholm Crescent in their honour. In 1972 Doris transferred to the Chilliwack General Hospital extended care unit, where she nursed until her retirement in 1976.

Doris was an extraordinary nurse and took great pride and pleasure in caring for others. It made her very happy to fulfill her dream of nursing. She was a very hard worker and always grateful for the simple pleasures in life.

One of Doris’s greatest strengths was her ability to see the good in all people. Her greatest pride and joy was her family. Doris’s strong faith in the Lord showed through in the person that she was and the way she lived her life, giving of herself and caring about others. God’s love gave her courage and comfort in her final years.

Doris will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family, son Oliver (Phyllis) Seaholm, daughters Shirley (Gerald) Hill and Chris (John) Dyck, grandchildren Randal (Jackie), Marilyn (Danny), Wayne, Gary, Gail (Kim), Lynn, Murray, Joy (Alan) and Cheryl, great-grandchildren Courtney, Tianna, Terrance, Carlin, Cory, Carrie, Tyler, Tanner, and Nakita, great-great-grandchildren William, Mia, Lauren, Danica, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Doris was predeceased by her husband Adolph in 1987 and sisters Gwen, Grace and Dorcas.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Ken Hirst for his exceptional care over the years and for being her special friend. Thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and staff of Chilliwack General Hospital that showed her loving care and compassion.

A Viewing for family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 19th, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Avenue, Chilliwack. Funeral Service to follow at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chilliwack Salvation Army or a Charity of your choice.
