Doris Audrey Cartmell (nee Harter)

February 18, 1929 - June 18, 2022
Doris was welcomed to her Heavenly Home on June18, 2022 (at age 93) surrounded by her family and the loving and compassionate care of the nurses and staff at Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack.
Doris was born in Lavoy, Alberta on February 18, 1929, daughter to Ralph and Rosa Harter. She grew up on a dairy and grain farm with her four sisters and foster brother. In 1939, the family boarded a train to begin their new life in the Fraser Valley. Doris attended school at Chilliwack Junior and Senior Secondary, and later started working in the office at Spencer's, Eaton's Department Store and finally thirty years as a bookkeeper at Gord-Ray Men's Wear.
Doris married Leonard Cartmell in 1954 and they enjoyed 53 years together. Doris will be sadly missed by her three children, Audrey Cheney, Ron (Toni) Cartmell, Joan (Art) Friesen as well as seven grandchildren, Leanne, Thomas, Melanie, Adriane, Laura, Kyle and Andrew and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Marjory Priebe.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, Leonard, her three sisters, Eileen, Delly and Phyllis, brother, Fred and son-in-law, Michael.
Doris' Christian faith was strong. Over the years she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher and in leadership roles at the Salvation Army. Doris, our mother, will always be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, gift of hospitality and most of all her love of family. She treasured all the birthdays and holidays we shared together and always had a big smile and a treat for each great grandchild when they visited.
A celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, July 22 at 1pm at the Salvation Army Community Church on Brooks Avenue in Chilliwack.
In lieu of flowers, it was Doris' wish that donations be made in her memory to support Ukranian refugees.
