Dorene Hilda Gingerich

April 18, 1929 - September 4, 2021
Dorene was born in Preston, Ontario to Ivan and Adah Shantz. She had one sister, Edith, who presently lives in Victoria, BC.
In October 1953, she married Stan Gingerich. They farmed near Zurich, Ontario. In 1957, their son, Bryan, was born followed by daughter, Gwen, in 1958. In 1965, Stan and Dorene quit farming and moved to the Kitchener-Waterloo area where they lived and worked until their retirement in 1994.
Dorene enjoyed working as a bookkeeper for many different organizations.
After their retirement, Stan and Dorene moved to Chilliwack, BC to be closer to their children and grandsons, Denver and Travis.
After 3 years in Chilliwack, Stan and Dorene decided to return to the familiarity of K-W, Ontario where they reconnected with friends and church until Stan's passing in October 2001.
Dorene spent the last 20 years of her life in BC, 10 years in Victoria and 10 years in Chilliwack. During this time her family expanded with the addition of two granddaughters, Naomi and Lauren, who married into the family. Recently she became a great grandmother to Isabella.
Throughout her life Dorene was passionate about classical and choral music. The many choirs she sang with valued her fine alto voice. She was also an avid reader, gardener, and seamstress. Her family and friends will remember her for her warm smile, her great sense of humour, her determination, her practicality, and her great baking.
The family thanks Dr Scholtz and the nursing staff at the Chilliwack Hospital for their professionalism and kind care during Dorene's final days.
A Celebration of Life Tea will be held at Henderson's Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Ave, Chilliwack, BC on Saturday, September 25th at 2 pm.
