Donald Webster McGregor passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14th 2013, at the age of 91 years, with his wife Emma (Margie) by his side at Valleyhaven Retirement Community in Chilliwack.

Don was born on June 5, 1921 at the family farmhouse near Hanley, Saskatchewan. He is survived by his wife Margie, daughters Rita McGregor, Evelyn McGregor, Fay (Rudy) Derksen and son Donald (Helen) McGregor, as well as his seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by step daughters Pauline (Cliff) Harper and Jacqueline (Robert Donofrio) Hatcher, five step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren.

In 1940 Don enlisted in the Canadian Army and served with the Military Engineers, attached to the Lord Stratcona’s Horse primarily in Tank Recovery and Repair, through North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. He met and married Corrie, the mother of his children, in Rotterdam in 1945. After returning to Canada the couple moved to BC and lived in Quesnel, Prince George and then to Chilliwack in 1956. Throughout these years Don worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic in the mining, forestry, and construction sectors, opening up and developing the Province of B.C.

After divorcing Don met and married Margie, his Buddy, together they spent many happy years travelling for hunting and fishing trips and visiting family as well as going abroad to Hawaii, an Alaskan cruise, Eastern Canada, Italy, England and Scotland.

Don was involved in the community through the Royal Canadian Legion, Elks, Chilliwack Curling Club and as a 45 year founding member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans, Chilliwack Unit # 305.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 10:00 am at Henderson’s Funeral Home in Chillwack, 45901 Victoria Avenue. A reception will follow at the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Unit #305, 46268 Yale Rd,  Chilliwack.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to the charity of your choice in memory of Don would be appreciated.
