Dolores June Eckert (nee Reich)

March 31, 2020

October 29, 1931 - March 31, 2020
I am saddened to announce the passing of my dear wife, June, who has suddenly left her earthly home and gone to be with her Lord and Saviour. Free from her constant pain, she will take her place amongst the angels with our beloved son, Randy.
She was a wonderful wife and an amazing mother.
June was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, during the depression and moved to Chilliwack in 1946. Her schooling began in Medicine Hat, continued in Chilliwack at CHS and Business College. After graduating she worked in the office of Haas Hop Co. before taking on the co-management of Bon Marche Gift Store which was owned by her parents, Fred and Elsie Reich. Then she worked for Ganton and Walton Jewellers, before joining me in my Accounting Business. When I met June, she was the first majorette in Chilliwack and led the Cherry Carnival Parades with the local band. She also formed her own Drill Team and Accordian Band. We were married in 1953 and our Son, Randy was born into our family in 1957. As an active member of First Baptist Church June was in the choir, taught Sunday School and CGIT, took part in the Women's Circle, and in 2nd Mile Club. For the last 26 years, we worshipped at Broadway Church.
June was keenly interested in sewing, interior decorating, flower arranging, hosting family and friends frequently, keeping contact with internet friends, and caring for her extended family. Both of us worked on the Board for Sunshine Drive School and Hostel which in later years became Chilliwack Opportunity Society. She and I shared an interest in designing, building, and landscaping as we built our homes, Plaza 409, and the Nowell Centre. June has always loved to travel and we were fortunate to have holiday homes to enjoy in North Vancouver and in Maui for many years. Together we travelled with our son to Australia, Europe, Hawaii, Asia, Russia, western USA, northern Africa, and across Canada.
June is survived by me, Fred Eckert, her husband of 66 years, her devoted sister, Gail Williamson, Aunt Marion Evans, brother-in law, Whit Eckert, sisters-in-law, Alma Eckert and Violet Breitkreuz, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by our son Randy, her brother, Don, and an infant sister, Shirley.
Because of the restrictions of Covid 19, plans for a Celebration of Life have been cancelled. A brief, private family graveside service was held on April 9, 2020. Rev. Wilf Richert officiated. This Obituary may also be read online at www.hendersonsfunerals.com. No flowers by request. If you wish to donate to a Charity of your choice in honour of June, that would be greatly appreciated.
The family would like to thank all the many doctors who gave quality to June's life - especially Dr. Paul Basson. The Chilliwack General Hospital Emergency staff gave June compassionate care for her last 24 hours of life.
