Doetje "Dora" Laanstra

May 17, 1929 - December 19, 2019
It is with heavy hearts, we announce that Dora went to be with the Lord in the early morning of December 19, 2019, at the Waverly Seniors Village, in her 90th year. Dora was born in the village of Siegerswoude, in the province of Friesland, Netherlands, on May 17, 1929. Dora married the love of her life, Stu (Sjoerd) Laanstra on January 26, 1956. Dora immigrated to Canada along with her husband and their two young daughters to Agassiz, BC, while pregnant with her third in 1959. Dora was a Caregiver in the Netherlands and a full-time mother of six children. In her lifetime, Dora enjoyed knitting, reading, canning, baking, running the household efficiently, celebrating family birthdays, Saturday morning coffee with relatives, watching Christian shows, visiting the sick & inmates (with Stu), helping others, Sunday Dutch soup & buns with family & single Moms', attending church, and traveling. Dora was sweet, bubbly, and full of smiles. Dora was a "mom" to everyone and lovingly referred to as "Beppe" (grandma) by all.
Dora loved being surrounded by family & friends. Dora is lovingly remembered by her husband of almost 64 years, Stu, children Shirley Adams, Ettie (Brian) Rodda, John (Shirley) Laanstra, Cathy (Bryan) Saretske, Walter (Caroline) Laanstra, and Jim (Patti) Laanstra, 15 grandchildren & 25 great grandchildren. Our family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Waverly Seniors Village and Dr. Vera Nyirenda for their loving care.
Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020, at 1 pm at the City Life Church in Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dora can be made to the City Life Missions Fund. Condolences can be made at www.woodlawn-mtcheam.ca.
