May 15, 1941 - May 28, 2021
Brought into this world by a mid-wife in a little house on Adams Road in Greendale. David was the seventh son of proud parents John and Emilie Prachnau.
Last year Dave had enjoyed the celebration of his 80th birthday with countless birthday wishes by mail and from friends and family visiting throughout his special day. Dave passed away peacefully in his favourite chair thirteen days later.
Dave was a very proud father of daughters Laurie, Janet, and son Kevin, a very proud grandfather (and great grandfather) of Kyla (Jacob, Brooklyn, Juliette); Derek; Brittany and Brad (Mary, John); Miranda, (Jenaya, and 5th generation great-great granddaughter Venus); Tyler and Melina (Brody, Brianna); Logan and Hailey.
Dave had a loving family with Nancy (nee Lumsden), and experienced another loving family with Donna Male and embraced her Ontario family Shelley, Danny, Kevin and even enjoyed their father who Dave would introduce as his husband-in-law.
Dave was loved by all for his kind soul and cheeky sense of humour. Dave was well known in Chilliwack for his many careers. His after school gas-pumping position was at Dick Everett's garage near the Atchelitz Bridge just a short distance from our farmhouse on the old highway and this experience led him to enrol in the Automative Mechanics Licence offered in Nanaimo while he worked for his father-in-laws' Rambler Dealership.
He later operated Vedder Mohawk garage before having a long career selling cars at Toyoto Motors with many repeat customers over the years. Other work experiences included co-owning Bowmatic Dairy Equipment in Grinrod, B.C.; Chilliwack Leisure World; and most recently, working for his son's Heppner Trucking business where they adapted the business practices to reach out to farmers throughout the region to determine their gravel needs, a natural fit for father and son.
Back in the 40s and 50s Pete Heppner, founder of Heppner Trucking provided gravel to Dave's father John Prachnau who was a builder in the area.
Dave and Donna enjoyed many great holidays to Hawaii, visiting Donna's children in Ontario as well as regular visits to Mexico with his family.
Dave was predeceased by father and mother John and Emilie, his brothers Peter, John, Wally(Ada), Bill, Bob, Ed and Jim and is survived by sisters Laura and Vera (Bill) and sisters-in-law Hilde, Betty, Erna, Shirley and many nieces and nephews.
