David James Hertgers, son of Cornelis and Geraldine, went into the arms of Jesus, on July 19, 2010. He is survived by his parents, grandparents, Jake and Sophia Hertgers, Syds and Gerda Tjepkema; siblings, Julia (Travis), their children, Jillyan and Theo; Nathan (Julia), their children, Zachariah, Natalia and Nathaniel. He was predeceased by his brother James in 1978.

David was born on February 11, 1982 in Chilliwack. He lived with many shortcomings, but that never stopped him from living life to the max. His love for people was evident with the many hugs and smiles that he so generously gave to the young or old.

School held many challenges for him, attending Agassiz Christian, Harrison, and finally graduating from Abbotsford Christian High in 2000.

He enjoyed working around the family farm with his John Deere Gator, until he was offered a job cleaning up on construction sites. He was diligent in his work and took pride in a job well done.

In December of 2005, David was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. The cancer kept coming back even after many chemo treatments, radiation as well as a stem cell transplant. The last few years, he spent time making jigsaw puzzles, watching hockey and playing on his Wii.

Even though his journey caused him much pain, he was not a complainer and always praised God for what he was still able to do. His childlike faith in Jesus was an example to us all. He was a blessed young man who made friends wherever he went.

We praise God for the many caregivers along his journey. He captured the hearts of many doctors and nurses along the way.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 23 from 7-9 pm at Agassiz Christian Reformed Church, 7452 Morrow Rd., Agassiz.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 1:30 pm from First Avenue Christian Assembly, 45610 First Ave., Chilliwack.
