June 11, 1946 - June 1, 2020
On June 1, 2020 our lovely wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Darlene, lost her battle with cancer. Born in New Westminster, Darlene spent her early years in the New Westminster - Coquitlam area, with a brief stint as a preschooler staying with her grandparents in Allison Pass. Following graduation from Como Lake High School, she attended and graduated as a Psychiatric Nurse from the Nursing School then located at Riverview Hospital in Coquitlam. Following graduation, she worked at Woodlands School before accompanying her husband, Bill, as they moved to Saskatoon where she transferred her skills to become a valued research technician at the University of Saskatchewan. She later returned to her nursing roots and worked as a home care nurse in Calgary.
Darlene and her family lived in various parts of Canada before finally settling in Chilliwack in 1993. She loved the agricultural community of Chilliwack and was proud to call the city home.
Darlene was predeceased by her mother, Theresa Tuckey (Guilbeault), father Douglas Tuckey, brother-in-law, Gary Bychyk, and nephew Kris Bychyk. She is survived by her husband, Bill, daughters Sara van Basten (Dan) and Kim Reid (Steve), her grandchildren Peyton Reid, Kristi-Anna Reid, Spencer van Basten, and Chase van Basten, and sister Sherri Bychyk.
Darlene's glowing smile and infectious laugh would light up any room. Our family gatherings, led by Darlene, would always be a mix of vibrant discussion and raucous laughter. She could take any scenario and elevate it to hilarious heights. She will be sorely missed.
Donations to the BC Cancer Foundation in Darlene's memory would be most appreciated.
