Daniel Bobyn passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at the WaÂverÂley Care Home in ChilÂliwack, BC at the age of 100 years, 11 months and 9days. He was born at Bazar, Chortkiw in the Ukraine.
Daniel is survived by his children, Daniel, Elizabeth, Nicholas (KathÂryn), Andrew and Anna (Douglas); grandchildren, Mia (Dave), Danielle (Cory), Caara, Megyn, Shawn (Lynda), Jodi Kawinsky and Tracy, Deann (Dave) and Erin (Jamie), Kim (Dwight), Kelly (Brian) and Karen; 10 great-grandchildren and his nephews, Fred and Jack Boyachuk.
Daniel was predeceased by his parents Nichola and Anna Bobyn; wife, Wasylyna “ Wilma” on February 15, 1999; sisters, Paulina, Anastasia “Nellie” and Maria; brothers, John and Theodor “Fred”; stepÂson, Wm (Bill) Kania and grandson in law, Jim Karpoff.
Daniel was with the Saskatchewan Light InÂfantry after he enlisted in WWII. He was active in the community in St. James, Manitoba. He was a member of the St. James Legion and the Chilliwack Legion. He and Wilma were founding members of the St. Basil the Great Ukrainian Catholic Church in St. James.
Daniel was self-employed for more than 30 years. He owned and operated several grocery stores in Winnipeg and worked at Venice Bakery in North Vancouver, Flyers Industries in Winnipeg and for the Dept. of Fisheries in Chilliwack. His final working years in Chilliwack were with a nursery on Young Street in Chilliwack, now known as Minter Gardens Nursery.
Prayers will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 7 pm at Descent of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church, 45940 Alexander Ave, Chilliwack.. Funeral Services will be held on Friday 17, 2006 at 1:30 pm from Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave, Chilliwack; Father Myroslav Cryviak officiating. Pall Bearers will be; Daniel Bobyn, Nicholas Bobyn Andrew Bobyn, Shawn Paller, Douglas Stein and Guy Johnson.
Interment following the service at Chilliwack Cemetery.
